Decision 2008: the best internet convention coverage

So this is not a post about politics…it is about who has the best method of communicating it’s message.

I watched Barack’s speech at the DNC site and actually watched it in HD…full screen. The sound was incredible and it communicated his message clearly. I was moved to tears sitting in a jury room staring at a computer screen with my headphones on…”This election is not about me…it’s about all of us.”

It’s easy to view the parties according to their stereotypes…

The Democrats: hip and with it, Hollywood and college kids…etc.

The Republicans: Old traditionalists that are out of touch with things like new media and social change.

So you would think that there would be some young Web-Designer Republican that would make sure that their main portal to communicate what is going on this week at the RNC was not a buggy, distorted, confusing, piece of poopoo.

The Republican page is using YouTube to stream their footage (YouTube? you aren’t hosting it in HD? How 2006.) The second thing is that it’s almost inaudible due to the amount of audio gain that the source videos have.

How did that happen? Do you not want the confidence of this generation? Do you not want to communicate your message clearly in the one place that most people turn to for information?

Obama twitters like Los on pixystix but Republican’s can’t find a way to clearly stream their biggest and most notable gathering.

So this may seem partisan, but only because Republicans didn’t step up and focus on their message…

(which by the way…I wasn’t trying to show an unflattering pic of Bush…I swear. I took like 12 screen caps and finally gave up trying to get one that looked like I wasn’t trying to make a joke…I was actually being kind)

Obama's speech also brought me to tears, but I just thought it was because I was pregnant. :)

not to mention that red is an angry colour and blue is calming. i'm just sayin'...

That would/will be an interesting analysis.....

    # of *actual voters* who use internet/computerized technology

    # of those *actual voters* who knew/understood the details of what you shared

    # of those above who even cared if they knew

    # of actual voters whose idea of advanced technology is an electric pencil sharpener (my in-laws would fall into this group, who are obama supporters.... ) Many reliable voters are in this category.... Wonder if they fall into one party or the other?

    Not talking politics here.

Just commenting on your post. :)

    .escamilla,

Jesus was covered in red while on the cross... If that's your sort of thing...

    I'm just sayin'.....

by the way.... I've been a graphic artist for about 8 years... If I'm not mistaken, it was two brilliant "young" individuals that constructed the idea others build off from the old and pathetic "youtube".... I'm glad the DNC put everything up full blast the best they could. All them ipod consumers with little education had a clear path to see where "aloof" gets you in this world. Anyways.. Being a Musician for 10 years and a Artist my entire life, I should scream of left extremism right? Substance triumphs style any day, just ask Rev. Wright.

Hey Juan, thanks for you comments. As a designer then, looking objectively at these two sites, do you not agree with me? All I was saying was that the site played into the stereotype. Maybe they should've hired you. You don't fit the mold and are exactly the kind of person they should be trying to reach.

I believe both of these tickets have substance...I just think that the DNC communicated better to the Web 2.0 junkies.

(Oh and the toungue in cheek red comment was cute, but you can't be serious about relating color theory to the blood of Jesus Christ. He was broken, and naked, and mangled, and so offensive and I am grateful everyday of my life that He did so. More than grateful...we are depraved and undeserving of that gift. but I don't see how that relates to designing a website to appeal to people visually)

I agree with you.. but for me I don't look at everything on the cover As an artist that's kinda hard to do, I'll admit.

Regarding the "Red" comment, you hit it on the nail what I meant.... Color doesn't define anything.. We need to look beyond the surface and nice crafty speeches... I guess unless we are talking about Bloods and Crips.

    To add a little more...

I'd like to see more validity in the contrasts people have.
